Mark’s Story

5 Nov

Mark’s story is incredible. I really don’t have much of a comment on it, not sure if there is much else to say. It reminds me of a friend of mine who is in the hospital right now – as he lays sick in his hospital bed he told me he is blessed…

Contributing To Community.

5 Nov

What does a beautiful community look like? I think a lot about this question. Keep in mind, when I say community I am referring to University, Church, Work, Etc.

Today I was thinking a lot about how we are contributing to community. What are individuals doing to walk towards the vision of that community. Many times in a community there will be a few people who stand out. Those are putting in those extra hours to see that things are getting done. Those who seem to be pushing hard to ensure the community is reaching its purpose or vision.

Often this can become an issue. Towards someone like this there can be two responses from others in the community…

  1. Some from the community will lift up that person above others. They see that person working so hard and they could idolize him or her. Putting them in a high position just because they are working really hard.
  2. Others may look at these kind of people as they are working to hard. That in there hard work they are “missing the point”. Maybe forgetting the focus.

Both of these attitudes are wrong.

When I imagine a beautiful community, I see a family who are all contributing towards the vision. I see individuals consistently asking themselves the question, “what is my role in this community?”.

Box PersonWhen individuals are not rising up to contribute, to engage in their role, others may need to take on that role too. This is why in communities some may stick out more than others. Its not always because those people want to stick out, but maybe because others have not stepped up to contribute.

We are called to intentionally contributing to the vision of our community. To always be considering who needs a helping hand – always having our eyes open.

To be honest, this is what I imagine – If I lived back in Jesus day and we served on the same team. Lets say our team was in charge of cooking food for Church (just an example..). I picture us preparing the food and I feel that Jesus would offer his part to play. Along with helping those who can’t keep up with cooking (like myself ha!) but I think Jesus would want to see a team who were all playing there part.

Imagine a community where everyone is contributing. All are considering what role they play and fully engaging in it. With that image in mind could anyone really “stick out” in that community?

I know this is a reminder directly at myself. Moments ago I paused writing this because I was called to eat dinner. After dinner I put my dishes on the counter not even considering to help with dishes and began to walk to my room to finish this blog post. Then I remembered what I was writing about, contributing to community. So I turned around. Ended up having rad conversation with my parents. Never forget what this could do for your own health.

This kind of community I am describing is equal. It does not put one above the other because there is no opportunity for that. Here we see unity.

This is beautiful community.

Vicky and Sam

26 Oct

“Vicky and Sam” is a great short film I came across on Vimeo. I love it, such a creative story idea. Although I really believe the ending could have been better. The whole film was about “love story clichés” so I think they could have ended with a happy love story cliché. Still though, awesome short film.

you.

17 Oct

You know at the end the day all God wants…is you. simply that. There is nothing we can do make God love us. When we come to God, you know what the only thing he asks is for honesty. That’s it. I full on believe that God is Almighty but that doesn’t mean that we have to treat him really different..as in that doesn’t mean we treat him like some thing that is way out there so far from us. If having a normal conversation with someone is starting it with “hey bro, how are ya?” then why does the way we talk to God be any different? God wants your honesty! God wants You! if that means questioning him..if that means swearing at Him.. then that’s what he asks. He asks for us. Honestly you open up the Psalms and a huge part of it the writer is saying things like “why oh why Lord….” they are being honest with God then a few lines later they will be praising the Lord! you know why? because they brought there honesty. They came to God as they are and that will lead us to Him. There is nothing we can do to make God love us more, Not even loving others! God asks us to Love others but we don’t do that because God told us to, no we do that in response to who he is. simply. who he is. We love because he loves us. One of the biggest songs in the Church right now is “How He Loves” the chorus screams.. “He loves us! oh how He loves us”. It so big because through it all that is the only thing that is matters. He loves us! Everything we do is in response to that.

So please remember..and I pray that I would remember.. that God is LOVE. That any “good” thing I do..feeding the hungry, going to Church, reading my Bible, anything like that.. will not bring me closer to God. we love because He first loved. Come as you are.

God only wants you.
that is an invitation that I can understand..

its 3:00AM I just had to get that out.

Perspective.

4 Oct

This is a short film by Mood Collection. The intent of this film is see New York differently. I love it. Its simple images (fire trucks, people, food, streets, signs, etc.) yet because of the way it isPeople filmed, we are reminded how extraordinary the unextraordinary really is. The pianos melody is weaved through snapshots of life.. the colours are lifted to highlight the story of New York.. and for a short four and a half minutes we see life from a different perspective.

What if we viewed every moment like this. What if we were able to change our perspective from ugly, broken, misplaced..to beautiful, loved, valued, inspiring… maybe perspective is a choice?

what lens will we use?

[One short scene shows a lady for a few seconds who is not dressed very appropriate, use your own discretion.]
